This book, which is unique in the English language, comprises a history of Mimetic Art from its primitive origins until the present day, touching upon the Asiatic dramas, Egyptian rituals, the dance and drama of Classic Greece and Rome; the Commedia dell'Arte; and France of the eighteenth and nineteenth Centuries. The study of Pantomime in England leads to the most recent developments in this country. A long technical section deals with the practical training of students. The artistic and educational aspects of the subject are touched upon equally with reference to the stage and to the work in schools and colleges.
