Below is a list of frequently asked questions or other important information visitors may want to know about submitting information to The World of Mime Theatre (WMT).
1. Do you accept submissions from
all Mime performers, teachers, etc.?
2. How long will it take for my submission to be added to the listings?
3. Why are there no listings for a particular country?
4. Why is a well-known performer I know of not listed on the site?
5. Why is there no information on street Mime or interactive
Mime (for parties and private/corporate events)?
1. Do you accept submissions from all Mime performers,
teachers, etc.?
No. Mime is performed is a variety of ways, and
is very often combined with, or applied to, other performing arts. WMT's
mission is not to decide what is Mime and what is not, but the website has a
very particular focus, and only information that falls within this focus will be
included in the website.
The focus of the website is summarized as:
Dramatic performance in which the body is the primary means of an actor's expression
When spoken text or voice is used, it is significantly subordinate to corporeal expression
When other performing genres, styles, and arts are used,
they are minimal. This includes:
Clowning, dance, acrobatics, music, puppetry, magic,
juggling, and other circus arts
Performance built on a dramatic structure, using movement
and attitude to convey character and plot/situation. This does not
include:
Living statues / mannequins (performance consisting
primarily of the depiction of characters in static poses with transitions
between these poses).
Performance created for the indoor or outdoor theatrical
stage. This does not include:
Street performance; performance at private events
such as parties, weddings, etc.; performance at corporate events such as
corporate functions, trade shows, etc.;
improvisational or "strolling" performance
If a Mime artist/teacher at times performs or teaches Mime in any of the ways mentioned above that are not included in the focus of the website, but his/her primary Mime work does fall within the scope, WMT may choose to include them in our listings. The site administrator is willing to discuss with anyone, at length, whether an artist's work falls within the scope of the website in order to determine whether he/she should be included in WMT's listings.
2. How long will it take for my submission to be added to the listings?
WMT receives submissions every week from people
in all parts of the world. The site's administrator carefully reviews all
submissions before deciding whether or not to add the new information to the
website. Visitors submit information much faster than it can be reviewed,
so there is a long backlog of submissions waiting to be reviewed. Some
submissions are given priority, such as listings submitted to the Mime Theatre
Calendar, since this information is time-sensitive, and changes to existing
listings, as these changes require little or no review and can usually be made
quickly and easily. Other submissions must be reviewed as time permits in
order to assure that they are appropriate for the website before they can be
added.
If your submission is accepted, you will receive an
e-mail telling you so, and showing you where to find your listing. If it
is rejected, you will receive an e-mail explaining the reason. We may also
write you to request additional information to help us consider your
submission. If you do not receive a response, you are welcome to resubmit,
but we ask that you wait at least a few months before doing so.
3.
Why are there no listings for a particular country?
WMT considers information about Mime anywhere in
the world for our listings. If a particular country does not appear on the
website or does not appear on a particular page, this is because either we do
not have information on Mime in that country that we consider to be within the
scope of the website, or we have received submissions of information about Mime
in that country but have not yet been able to review those submissions.
Please be assured that WMT does not discriminate against any particular country
or region of the world.
4. Why is a well-known performer I know of not listed on the site?
Performers are listed on WMT based on 1) the
information we know about that performer, which may be too limited for us to
determine whether the performer's work falls within the scope of the website,
and 2) the site administrator's determination that a performer's work does in
fact fall within the scope of the website.
Mime is practiced all over the world, and while WMT's
listings continue to grow, there are some performers we are simply unaware of,
even though they may be well-known in a particular country. We welcome
visitor submissions to help us learn about performers not yet listed.
Some performers known as Mime artists may, based on the
judgment of the site's administrator, perform work that falls outside the scope
of this website. If a visitor feels someone should be added to the
listings, we will consider their submission and either add the performer or let
them know our reasons for rejecting the submission.
5.
Why is there no information on street Mime or interactive Mime (for parties and private/corporate events)?
WMT has a particular focus within the variety of
ways in which Mime is used in performing. Street Mime and interactive Mime
fall outside this focus. (See FAQ number 1 for more on this subject.)
